Betty Jane Broome

January 16, 1931 — January 1, 2021

Betty Jane Broome, age 89, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at her home in Batesville, MS.   A graveside service for Betty will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville with Dr. Tommy Snyder officiating.

Betty was born on January 16, 1931 to the late Fred and Hallie Batte Teer in Winona, MS.  During her lifetime, she was a devoted wife, mother and faithful follower of Jesus Christ.  Betty was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville where she regularly attended Sunday school and was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union.  Throughout much of her life, Betty served her Lord in various ways including teaching Sunday School to middle school girls and leading a Bible Study for senior citizens in an assisted living home.  For many years she also participated in choir.

Well known for her Southern hospitality, Betty was a marvelous cook and excelled as a hostess.  In true Southern tradition, Betty brought all kinds of delicious foods to innumerable people in their times of need.  She was also a talented seamstress.

Betty was married to John C. Broome III for 63 years.  When Johnny retired, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.  They also loved spending time together with friends and family.  Betty is preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother, Fred Teer.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her 3 children: Barry Broome (Amy) of Fayetteville, AR, Barbara Broome Crew (Tom) of Joshua, TX and Todd Broome (Julie) of McKinney, TX; 8 grandchildren (who knew her as GranGran): Nathan Broome, Sara Jones, Hallie Broome, Valerie Rockefeller, Melanie Neill, Jordan Broome, Josh Broome and Rachel Wedemeyer; 9 great-grandchildren: Kimber and Piper Broome, Kolt and Max Neill, Alice and Emily Jones, Mikayla Broome, Kylie Broome and Levi Wedemeyer; and one brother, Phil Teer of Ponchatoula, LA.

Betty believed in the promise of eternal life as the Bible assures us.  She treasured this book and made reading it first thing in the morning a priority, along with time spent in prayer.  She left a legacy of faith in God and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
