Ellen Vanhoozer

Ellen Vanhoozer, age 91, passed away Monday, December 30, 2019 at her granddaughter's home in Amory, MS. She was the widow of Ernest Edwin Vanhoozer.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vanhoozer will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville with visitation beginning at 12 noon. Interment will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery in Gore Springs, MS.

Ellen was born January 4, 1928 to the late Eugene Jones and Lillian Coggins Jones in Marks. Ellen was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family during her lifetime. She loved cooking for others, reading and journaling. She was a member of Walnut Baptist Church.

The loving family she leaves behind include her daughter; Judith Carol McCollum of Pontotoc; son Eston Vanhoozer of Oakland, TN.; sister, Patricia Mettetal of Batesville; 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ellen was preceded in death by her daughter, Shannon Rochelle Francis; son, John Vanhoozer; sisters, Evelyn Roper, Ruby Bolen, Margie Pearson, Ethel Faye Bass, Mary Rice; and brothers, Fred Jones and Eugene Jones, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Association.
