Barbara Joann Nelson, a beloved school teacher who dedicated her life to shaping young minds and spreading kindness, passed away peacefully and pain free on May 31 2024, in Horn Lake, Mississippi. She was born on October 26, 1931, in Ohio to her loving parents, Benjamin Daniel and Marrietta Willits Yoder.

Joann was not just a teacher; she was a beacon of light for all those around her. Her spunky personality, great sense of humor, and love visiting with people and sharing laughter left a lasting impact on everyone she met. Joann's passion for teaching went beyond the classroom - she truly cared about each of her students and made sure they felt seen and valued.
Throughout her life, Joann cherished her Lord and Savior, finding solace and strength in her faith. Her unwavering love for God served as an inspiration to many and guided her actions with compassion and understanding.
In addition to her successful career as a school teacher, Joann held a BA degree in education, showcasing her dedication to continuous learning and self-improvement. She also had her greatest pleasure in her school teaching when she worked with children with special needs. Also, she took great pleasure in teaching her great-grandson, Teddy kindergarten. Outside of work, she enjoyed simple pleasures like shopping, getting her hair done, and most of all, spending quality time with her grandchildren.
Joann is survived by her daughter, Jill Renee Pierce; four grandchildren: Ben Pierce, Mary Cremo, Claudie Werckle, Sam Pierce; and three great-grandchildren: Teddy Cremo, Davy Cremo, and Ezra Werckle. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we mourn the loss of Barbara Joann Nelson from our earthly presence, let us take comfort in knowing that she has found eternal peace in the embrace of her Lord. May her memory continue to inspire us to live with joy, kindness, and unwavering faith.
