Anita Holland Smith, age 72, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Blackjack Cemetery near Batesville. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Anita was born on October 26, 1949 to the late C.W. Holland and Bobbie Crosby Holland in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a 3rd grade school teacher at Batesville Elementary for 42 years. Anita had a passion for teaching children, whether it was her students at school or students in her Sunday school class at Blackjack Presbyterian Church, where she was a faithful and active member. There at church she always helped organize Vacation Bible School, she participated in the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry, and she enjoyed spending time with the youth. In Anita’s earlier years, she enjoyed playing tennis and coaching softball.
The family left behind to cherish her loving and passionate memory include her husband, Johnny Smith of Batesville, MS; her sister, Paula Mayfield of Canton, MS; and many beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws.
