Albert Hugh Barnett, age 87, passed away Saturday morning, October 19, 2019, at the Sardis Community Nursing Home in Sardis, MS.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church near Batesville, MS with interment to follow in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Hugh was born December 6, 1931 in Panola County, MS to the late Albert Jospeh "Jack" and Velma Johnson Barnett. He was a retired tree farmer, cattle farmer and truck driver. Hugh graduated from Batesville High School, Northwest Junior College in Senatobia, MS and Mississippi State University with a degree in Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. He was a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities. Hugh was a deacon for over fifty years, a church trustee, R.A. Leader, member of the church choir and church quartet. He loved looking after his cattle, fishing and church activities.
Hugh's memory will be cherished by his wife of sixty-two years, Mary Lou McMinn Barnett of Courtland, MS; daughter, Latitia Barnett Hopper (Dennis) of Batesville, MS; son, Tim Barnett (Angela) of Courtland, MS; three grandchildren, Shannon Moore, Lori Beth Hopper and Blake Barnett; one great-grandson, Henley Michael Longo.
Along with his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by two brothers, Lamar and Bobby Barnett; one grandson, Peyton Barnett.
