A funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Batesville, MS with Reverend Glyn Wiygul, Reverend John Tyler and Reverend Pat Ludlam officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville, MS. Visitation will be Sunday evening, Sept. 19, 2010, at Wells Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Mr. Fisher was born in Calhoun County, MS on October 14, 1935 to Jesse Doyle & Rubye Martin Fisher.
Mr. Fisher was a graduate Crowder High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army. Until the mid 70's he was the co-owner of Fisher Lumber Company in Batesville, MS. He then went on to work with the Mississippi State Tax Commission and retired in 1997 after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Batesville First United Methodist Church. Mr. Fisher sang in the Chancel Choir for over 50 years and served as Chancel Choir Director. He was a member of the Batesville Rotary Club, the Exchange Club and Jaycees. While serving with the Jaycees, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. He was an Alderman for the City of Batesville, as well. Mr. Fisher was a Batesville Volunteer Fireman and he was a member of the United Voices of Praise.
Upon moving to Cleveland in 2007 he became a member of the Merigold United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters: Monica Fisher Parker (Mike) of Merigold, MS, Kecia Fisher of Brandon, MS; brother, Larry 'Bud' Fisher, Sr. of Batesville, MS; two grandsons: Chris Parker of Brandon, MS and Jeremy Parker of Cleveland, MS.
He is preceeded in death by his wife, Peggy Tyler Fisher; his parents: Jesse Doyle & Rubye Martin Fisher and one brother: Dr. Fred Fisher.
Pallbearers will be: Chris Parker, Jeremy Parker, Bud Fisher, Jr., Clint Fisher, Clay Fisher, Jason Wolfe and Bert Wolfe. Serving as Honorary Pall Bearer will be Fred Fisher, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Batesville First United Methodist Church Music Ministry, 119 Panola Ave., Batesville, MS 38606.
