She was the widow of Robert Sorrells "Bobby" Short. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday 10/6/09 at the First United Methodist Church in Sardis, MS with Reverend Dayna Goff presiding. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis, MS. Mrs. Short was born on February 5, 1921 in Tate County, MS to Melva Vernon and Dora Ray Perkins. She was a homemaker. Until her illness, she was an active member of the Sardis United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Sardis United Methodist Fellowship Class, a member of the United Methodist Women, chairperson of the Sardis UMC Administrative Board and a past member of the church choir and Sardis Woman's Club. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Short Beard of Sardis, MS and two sons, Monroe Short of Sardis, MS and Robert S. "Bob" Short, Jr. of Hernando, MS; 9 grandchildren: Rob Short, Jay Gant, Jennifer Pardoe, Kimberly Land, Ashley Bryant, Amy Rivers, Amanda Weeks, Emily Barmer and Elizabeth Futch; 13 Great Grandchildren. Rivers was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. "Bobby" Short; a daughter: June Short Gant and a brother: Vernon Perkins. The family asks that memorials be sent to the Sardis United Methodist Church, 237 South Main Street, Sardis, MS 38666. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Monday 10/5/09 at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, MS. Also there will be another visitation from 12:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm Tuesday 10/6/09 at the First United Methodist Church in Sardis, MS.
