Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Batesville Civic Center with burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Reverend Clay Baker, Reverend Karen O'Brien and Reverend Pat Ludlam will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, September 29, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Panola County Courthouse in Batesville, MS.
He was born to Houston & May Bell Dye Bright on June 23, 1959 in Batesville, MS. "Shot" was a Methodist.
"Shot" was employed by Panola County Sheriff's Department in January, 1984 as a dispatcher and jailer. In January, 1996, Sheriff David M. Bryan appointed him as Jail Administrator. He served in that capacity until 2005 when he was elected Sheriff.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell Meek Fowler Bright of Courtland, MS; Step-daughter: Ginger Fowler Lowrie and husband, Tony, of Hernando, MS; Step-son: John W. Fowler and wife, Claire, of Batesville, MS; 4 sisters: Sherry Gray Holder of Batesville, MS, Frances Gray Riley of Eudora, MS, Debbie Gray of Mountain Home, AR, and Barbara Bennett of Batesville, MS; 4 brothers: Ricky Bright of Charleston, MS, Ricky Gray of Batesville, MS, Charlie "Bubba" Gray of Olive Branch, MS, and Charles McKay Gray of Eudora, MS; one uncle: J.W. "Bud" Bright of Batesville, MS; and 3 step-granchildren.
He was preceded by: one sister, Vickie Gray Thompson and by his parents: May Bell Dye & Houston Bright.
