Bettye Loyce Raines

Bettye Loyce Raines, age 80, of Palestine, Texas passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, Texas.  She was born on March 23, 1936 in Sardis, Mississippi to Luther A. and Lillian Johns Dorr.  She had resided in Palestine for 27 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palestine.  She enjoyed line dancing and travelling all over the world with the Alaskan cruise trip being one of her favorites.  She also loved spending time with her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Lillian Dorr; her husbands, Thomas Appleton and Coleman Raines; and a daughter, Joy Seckler. Bettye is survived by her children, Jimmy Appleton and wife Ann of Calhoun City, MS, Mary Ann Eddins and husband Jim of Palestine, TX, David Raines and wife Joyce of Mineola, TX, Craig Raines and wife Patricia of Lubbock, TX, Pam Quinn and husband Ed of Austin, TX, and Toni Raines of Dallas, TX; brother, Luther Maxwell Dorr and wife Nell of Oneonta, AL; her twin sister, Joyce Sanders of Batesville, MS; 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Billy Neal, Brett Neal, Mikey Neal, Michael Dickson, Steve Sanders, and Brandon Place. A visitation will be held in Palestine, Texas from 2pm – 4pm on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.  Funeral services are scheduled for 2pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, Mississippi with a visitation preceding the service from 12noon – 2pm.  Burial will follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville.
