Homer Afton Carvan

July 25, 1933 — February 15, 2016

Mr. Homer A. Carvan, age 82, passed away February 15, 2016 at his home in Enid, MS. He is the widower of Faye Carvan. Funeral services for Mr. Homer will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016, beginning at 12:00 noon at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Enid, MS. Dr. Marty Evans and Brother Truman Scarborough will officiate the services. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00-8:00 PM at Wells Funeral Home, as well as 11:00 AM till service time on the day of the service at the church. Interment will follow immediately at the church cemetery. Mr. Carvan was born to the late Gerard Watters and Ava Lillian Phillips Carvan on July 25, 1933, in Teasdale, MS. He proudly served his country in the United States Army obtaining the rank of Private First Class. Homer retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation and also was a farmer. During his spare time when he wasn't farming or bush hogging his land, Mr. Carvan was serving on the Volunteer Fire Department for Enid as the Chief. He also enjoyed hunting and working with his hunting dogs. He could also be found in the yard working with his prized red lilies. Above all, Mr. Homer was a man of God and put his Lord and Savior above all else. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. This last fathers day Mr. Carvan was recognized as the oldest male member of the church. Those left behind to cherish Homer's blessed memory include his six children Emily Goff (Jerry) of Enid, MS, Estelle Roberts (Todd) of Savannah, TN, Homer Carvan Jr. of Gulf Shores, AL, Chris Carvan (Shawn) of Enid, MS, Bill Frost of Oakland, MS, David Frost of Independence MS; three siblings Pat McGregor of Enid, MS, Willie Carvan of Enid, MS, Kenneth Carvan of Enid, MS; thirteen grandchildren Kristy Hare, Kimberly Boone, Nichole Warren, Andrea Carvan, Britney Carvan Rocconi, Chandler Carvan, Addie Carvan, Cole Carvan, Ashley Dowty, Hannah Dowty, Anthony Frost, Brandon Frost, Will Frost; three great grandchildren and a host of extended family. Including his parents and wife, Mr. Carvan was preceded in death by one brother Gerald Carvan.
