Mr. William Nelson Deaton, Jr., age 89, passed away at his home near Batesville on February 14, 2016.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. The Deaton's will recieve guest one hour prior to service. Father Sam Messina will officiate. After the Celebration Of Life friends are asked to join the Deaton family back at their home, 404 Ferrell Rd. Batesville, MS, for a time of food and fellowship.
William was born to the late William and Grace Watts Deaton on March 1, 1926, in Iuka, MS. Mr. Deaton excelled in athletics and played tennis and was captain of his Varsity Basketball team. He was a graduate of Iuka High School where he received an award for Most Well Rounded Student. Upon graduation William attended the University of North Alabama. He proudly served his nation in the United States Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. During life, William worked for the Mississippi Highway Department and retired in 1990, after which he became the avid Sudoku player.
Those left behind to cherish Mr. Deaton's blessed memory include his wife, Marie T. Deaton of Batesville, MS, three sons; Christoper C. Deaton (Donna), of Batesville, MS, Timothy W. Deaton of Batesville, MS, and William Gregory Deaton (Tori) of Charleston, SC, siblings; James Lee Deaton of Memphis,TN, Dorothy Fitts of Jackson, TN, Donald Deaton of Sumter, SC., six grandchildren; Justin and Lauren Deaton,
Ryder Deaton, Justin, Jeff, and Jaime Brown.
