Video Memorial TributeThoughtfully Produced By:Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services Ruby Frances Thomas Haynes, age 88, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North MS, Oxford on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from complications of pneumonia.
Funeral services will be 3:00 o'clock p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Hebron Cemetery in Sardis, Ms. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Wells Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation begining one hour prior to services on Monday.
Ruby was born on August 1, 1920 in Michigan City, Ms. to Grady and Mimi Dona Thomas. She grew up in Michigan City, MS and graduated from Ashland High School. She was married to J.R. Haynes who was a graduate with an agricultural degree from Mississippi State A&M College. They were married for over 67 years before he passed away in 2007. The family moved to Sardis in 1946 where they became longtime members of Hebron Baptist Church. Mrs. Haynes enjoyed sewing for family and friends and was a member of the Home Demonstration Club. Like the late Mr. Haynes, Mrs. Haynes also loved her church and her church family.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Haynes of Sardis, Sonia Jay and husband, Elton of Brandon, MS; her son, Bob Haynes and wife Joyce of Batesville, MS; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, a niece who was raised like a sister, Catherine Pope and husband Duane of Bolton, TN. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, Connie Weeks and four brothers: Reid, Horace, Raymond and Woodfin Thomas. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Fairfield of Batesville for the love and care she received while she was a resident there the past three years.
