Thomas B. "Bop" Burnett, age 88, passed away January 12, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North MS in Oxford, MS. He is the widower of Edna Robertson Burnett.
Funeral services for Mr. Burnett will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday January 15, 2016 at Batesville First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, MS. Interment will follow the service at Forrest Memorial Park. Dr. Tommy Snyder and Rev. John Howell, Jr. will officiate the service.
Thomas was born September 25, 1927 to the late Malcolm D. Burnett and Jennie Kibler Burnett in Charleston, MS. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Thomas was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for 30 plus years at McIvor Baptist and Batesville First Baptist Church. He was a self employed contractor and owner of Burnett & Sons Construction Inc. He was a member of the Batesville Building Committee and worked for the City of Batesville Code Enforcement office for 25 years.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include 3 children, Brenda Burnett Womble (John) of Hernando, Janice Burnett Blair (Gary) of Batesville and Steven Thomas "Bubba" Burnett (Peggy) of Batesville, one brother, William F. "Billy" Burnett of Batesville, 8 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Thomas is preceded in death by one brother, Bernie Joe Burnett.
