Eugenia Marie Poland Mothershed, age 86, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 2, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North MS in Oxford, MS.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, January 4, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow the service at Friendship Cemetery in Como, MS. Rev. Ed Temple and Rev. Ed Woodall will officiate the service.
Eugenia was born February 17, 1929 to the late Claude W. Poland, Sr. and Marie Blanche Morgan Poland in Lula, MS. She graduated from Lula Rich High School and attended Brenaw College in Gainsville, GA, and The University of Mississippi in Oxford, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Eugenia worked for Coahoma County Bank and 1st National Bank in Memphis, TN. She was married to John Mothershed on June 20, 1954. The couple spent their first few years of marriage in Crenshaw before moving to Batesville where they have spent the rest of their lives together.
Eugenia was a homemaker during her lifetime. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Batesville where she was involved with the United Methodist Women's group. She taught Sunday School in her early years, as well as working with the Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts. Most importantly Eugenia loved God and Family.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband of 61 years, John Milton Mothershed of Batesville, daughter, Cindy Marie Mothershed Gray (Stephen L.) of The Woodlands, TX, two sons, Rev. Milton Allen Mothershed (Marla Gardner) of Wheaton, ILL., and John William Mothershed (Stephanie) of Batesville, MS., six grandchildren, Kathryne Gray, Kevin Gray, Will Mothershed, Russell Mothershed, Kira Mothershed, and Luke Mothershed, and two great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Liam Mothershed.
