William Davis "Bill" Newton, Jr.

William Davis "Bill" Newton, Jr., age 74, of Enid, MS, passed away on November 16, 2015 at Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, TN. The family will hold a memorial service honoring Bill at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 12 noon. Rev. Chris Cooksey, Rev. Laurie Jones and Rev. Larry Kilgore will preside over the service. Bill was born November 6, 1941 in Tallahatchie County to the late William Davis Newton and Ida Pauline Cox Newton. He was a farmer during his lifetime and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1963. Bill loved life and always had a smile on his face. He loved the land and was an avid outdoorsman, always enjoying fishing and hunting. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Lillie Simmerman Newton, of Batesville, 2 children; Connie Newton Kirk of Grenada, and Bill Newton, III (Ellen)of Enid, MS, 2 step sons; Barry Simmerman and Jesse Simmerman, 1 sister; Pat Little of Teasdale, and 2 brothers; Roger Newton of Metairie, LA, and Jim Newton of Charleston, MS, 4 grandchildren; Tyler and Morgan Kirk and Braden and Ben Newton. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Ann Mehan Newton.
