Mrs. Laverne French, age 87, formerly of Batesville, MS, went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, November 15, 2015 in D'Iberville, MS.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 18th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral Service for Mrs. French will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville.
She was born in Vardaman Ms. to Robert and Ida Morrow on October 4,1928. Laverne married John T. French in Locke Station Ms. in August of 1947. Laverne and John resided in Batesville and the surrounding area where they raise there son John Robert and two daughters, Jo Ann and Marsha (Margie). Laverne always strived to provide for her young family as a devoted worker through the years ending up at Fruit of the Loom Inc. where she later retired in 1991.
As a founding member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Batesville MS., she used her unique talents to bring hundreds of friends, family and neighbors to the church. While this all happened many years ago, her outgoing nature and persuasive ways left an everlasting impact on that church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John French, her brother, Charles Morrow and four sister; Earline Hopgood, Betty Jo Mitchell, Syble Roebuck and Shirley Sullenger.
Laverne is survived by two daughters Jo Ann (and husband Claude) Smith of Wiggins Ms., Marsha “Margie” (and husband Harvey) Cain of Saucier MS and one son John Robert (and wife Rubye) French of Courtland Ms., one sister, Judy Moore, three brothers Billy Morrow, Jimmy Morrow and Roger Morrow, nine grand children, twenty seven (27) great-grandchildren, and twenty one great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who will greatly miss there aunt Laverne.
Laverne’s extended family will forever be grateful for the excellent care and support provided over the last 2 1/2 years by the loving staff at Greenbrair Nursing. The nursing home called her Frenchie she loved bingo, gospel music, and the ice cream social.
