Mrs. Emma Jean Sorrells Griffis, age 91, passed away in the early morning hours of November 1, 2015, at her home in Sardis Lake, Mississippi. Mrs. Griffis is the wife of the late Leland Griffis. Funeral services for Mrs. Griffis will be held in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at 3:00 PM. The Griffis family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM until service time. Emma Jean was born to Gladys Brannon and Clyde Sorrells in Pleasant Grove, Mississippi on December 27, 1923. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Batesville. During her life, Mrs. Griffis was accountant for H.R. Ford in Memphis, Tennessee until her retirement. She enjoyed many activities which included bird watching, fishing, gardening and reading. Her most cherished past time, however, was spending time with her family and her many grandchildren. Those who Mrs. Emma Jean leaves behind to cherish her blessed memory include her two children, Carolyn G. Lusk (Richard) of Germantown, TN, and Mark Griffis (Diann) of Sardis, MS; two sisters, Lorraine Sorrells Tramell (Doc), Sue "Gertrude" Sorrells Proctor; one brother, Jesse Sorrells; eight grandchildren, Angie Griffis Sewell (Eddie) of Greenville, MS, Vicki Griffis Mitchell (Steve) of LaCenter, WA, Karen Lusk Harness (Rob)of Tupelo, MS, Stacye Griffis Copeland of Shreveport, LA, Melissa Griffis Bowen (Troy)of Olive Branch, MS, Richard Alan Lusk (Jill)of Collierville, TN, Johnny C. Griffis, Jr. (Lisa) of Oxford, MS, Mark T, Griffis, Jr. (Bonnie)of Lake Cormant, MS; fifteen great-grandchildren, Piper,Payton,Pete and Henry Leland Griffis; Katlyn and Lindsey Copeland; Justin, Parker and Katie Harness; Chad and Brandon Lusk; Eddie, Derek and Tyler Sewell; Lee (Cassie) Blaycock, and a host of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Emma Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Leland Griffis; two sons Johnny C. and Dickey Griffis; one grandson, Scott Griffis; three sisters, Nannie Seal Sorrells Mayfield, Bobbie Hardin, and Betty Ruth; and four brothers, Clyde Jr., Earl, Paul and Fred Sorrells.
