She is survived by her daughter Jeannette Gaines Polinski and her two sons, Russell J. Gaines, Jr. and John R. Gaines, their spouses, her younger brother Charles Smith, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. In addition to numerous friends and extensive extended family though the entire mid-continental United States. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Gaines Sr., her brothers James and Joseph, and her sisters, Bessie and Ola.
Daisy was many different things to many different people. Beginning in 1925, she was a faithful sister to her siblings. Later, she became a devoted wife and mother in a marriage that lasted until her husband's death that spanned better than a half century. Among many other things she was naturally artistic. It's doubtful that her painting will ever be found in museums or galleries but they will undoubtedly be found on the walls of her descendants and cherished there for generations to come.
She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
