Mr. Lanier was born November 30, 1923 in Vicksburg, MS to the late Clifford Peen Lanier, Sr., and Catherine Harlen Lanier.
Mr. Lanier was drafted while in high school into the U.S. Army where he served in the second front of the D-Day invasion and in the Battle of the Bulge under General George S. Patton. He was in the 3rd army, 11th Armored Division. After the war he returned to Vicksburg, finished the last year of High School and entered Mississippi State College, (now University) where he graduated January, 1951. He went to work for American Wisconsin Pipeline Company in Greenville in 1956, which became Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline Company, where he retired July1, 1983. The Company is now Texas-El Paso. He has lived in Sardis, MS since 1967.
Mr. Lanier is survived by his wife of 56 years Betty Wright Lanier, four daughters, Debbie Sawyer (Tom), Laura Donovan (Joe), Linda Sexton (Gary) all of Senatobia; Nancy McNabb (Daniel) of Southaven. Six grandchildren: Tripp Sawyer (Lupe) of Olive Branch, Ryan Sawyer (Christa) of Senatobia, Ben Arnold of Southaven, Matthew Donovan, Jonathan Clifford Sexton and Hannah Laura Sexton of Senatobia, and two great grandchildren, Alexandra Contreras and Jasmine Sawyer, and one brother, Cecil Lanier of Vicksburg.
He has been a member of First Baptist Church, Sardis for 41 years. Any memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Sardis or St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital in Memphis.
