Sidney Denson Burns, Sr.

Sidney Denson Burns, Sr., age 91, passed away Tuesday evening, June 9th, 2015 at Sardis Community Nursing Home in Sardis, MS. The funeral service for Mr. Burns will be held Saturday, June 13th, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Martin Willingham Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville MS. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 Friday evening at Wells Funeral Home. Sidney was born February 16, 1924 to the late Casey Clifford Burns and Hattie Clyde Alewine Burns in Batesville MS. Sidney began his career working for Leonard's Pit Barbecue in Memphis, TN. He went on to open Burn's Dive-In in Batesville MS where he operated the successful restaurant for 21 years before retiring. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Batesville. Those left behind to cherish his memory include his son; Sidney Denson Burns, Jr. (Sherry) of Batesville MS, 4 sisters; Joy Burns Smith and Agnes Burns Plunk both of Memphis, TN, Bobbie Burns Burton and Irma Burns Hill both of Jackson, TN, 4 Grandchildren including Christy Burns and Brandon Burns, and 8 Great Grandchildren including Levi Burns and Lillie Grace Burns. In addition to his parents, Sidney is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Morrow York Burns, one son, Travis Wade Burns and 4 siblings, Marie Burns Atkins, Lindy Burns, Lee Burns and Elliott Burns.
