Amos E. Harrison, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Pope, Mississippi on Sunday, May 31, 2015. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 4, 2015 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope, MS. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, June 3, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Amos was born March 1, 1934 in Ripley, TN to the late Thomas Duel and Rachil Lena Brown Harrison. Amos has been a fixture in and around Panola County for many years. He was a provider for his family, having worked anywhere from construction, farming, to raising cows and horses. Most people know Amos from his ownership of several businesses in the Pope community. He and his wife, Dean, first opened Country Kitchen in the 1970's and went on to operate Amoco Food Shop in Pope, MS. They also owned The Back Porch on Highway 51 in Pope, MS until an untimely fire several years ago. Amos loved socializing with all who came in his stores and truly cared for everyone, but most of all, he had an unending love for his entire family. Amos was also a Mason and member of the Panola Lodge #66 F&AM for over 50 years as well as a Shriner. Those that will cherish his memory include his wife, Dean Smith Harrison of Pope, MS; three sons, Michael Hardy of Madison, AL, Reginald O'Conner of Pope, MS, Dwayne Harrison of Southaven, MS; two sisters, Joyce Fitzgerald of Oxnard, CA, Eldridge Childress of Ripley, TN; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The family request that memorial contributions be sent to the Shriners Children Hospital, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103.
