Mrs. Hilda Holt, age 98, of Batesville passed away late Tuesday evening, May 12, 2015, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN.
A memorial service for Mrs. Holt will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 1:30 at the First United Methodist Church in Batesville. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 in the sanctuary.
Hilda Banks Holt was born June 25, 1916, in Neshoba County, MS, to Emma Spivey Banks and Francis Marion Banks. She is preceded in death by her husband, Homer David "Jack" Holt, her brothers, Hubert, Herman, Spivey, and Oren Banks, and her sister Juanita Banks Brasell. She was blessed in having eight nieces and nephews, eighteen great nieces and nephews, and thirty seven great great nieces and nephews who called her "Toolie" and all loved her dearly.
Mrs. Holt graduated from high school in Philadelphia, MS. She met her husband during World War II while working at Camp McCain in Grenada, MS. After the war they moved to Dunedin, Florida, where she worked twenty five years as bookkeeper for the city of Clearwater. Upon retirement they moved to Jackson, MS, to be closer to family.
In May, 2006, she moved to Batesville where she enjoyed her last years being loved and adored by her nieces and nephews. She was a member of Batesville First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Explorer's Bible Study. Her very favorite pastime was playing bridge in two bridge clubs and Rummikub with friends at Providence.
