Esther Hanks

Esther Everline Samuels Hanks, age 87, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 7, 2015, at Grace Health and Rehab of Grenada. She is the widow of James Wesley Hanks. Funeral services for Mrs. Hanks will be held Wednesday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Mr. Hal Johnson will officiate the service. Mrs. Hanks was born September 11, 1927 to the late Frank Luther Samuels and Lenora Osborne Samuels in Panola County MS. She was a member of Cold Springs Methodist Church and attended the Courtland Church of Christ. Survivors include 3 children; Loretta Hanks Smith (Tommy) of Oakland, MS, William Luther Hanks (Leila) of Vicksburg, MS, and Jimmy Hanks of Batesville, MS, one sister; Mary Simmons of Olive Branch, MS. 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Esther is preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Sue Thornton.
