Mr. Moore was born May 19, 1932 in Crowder, MS to the late Robert Lish and Grace Turner Moore. He was a member of Batesville United Methodist Church. He began his career in Tupelo with the F.W. Woolworth Company. His twelve year tenure took him to seven states progressing to store manager, where he served in Harrisonburg, VA and Morganton, NC. He later served as manager of the Ben Franklin Variety Store in Lincolnton, NC. In 1968, Mr. Moore moved his family to Batesville where he became a jobber distributor of Union Oil products under the privately owned Moore Oil Company. Mr. Moore is probably best remembered as owner of Dale Moore’s Grocery of Courtland, MS where he and his wife Margaret enjoyed serving hand-dipped ice cream to children of all ages. He had beautiful memories of the many friends he made during this time.
An avid Ole Miss fan, Mr. Moore loved football and fishing. But, probably one of his most enjoyable pastimes was serving in the Batesville Lions Club for over forty years. He was elected President of the local Club on two different occasions, and held many offices at the club, district and state level. He represented the Batesville Club at many State Conventions and at the Lions Club International Conventions held in New Orleans, Phoenix, and Montreal, Canada. His service was recognized by the coveted Melvin Jones Award. He was awarded a lifetime honorary membership in June, 2014.
