Live Webcast of Funeral ServiceGrenada, MS - Ruth Bailey Reans, age 92, formerly of Sledge, MS and the widow of Vernon O. Reans, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, January 22, 2015 at the Grenada Health and Rehab in Grenada, MS. Funeral services for Mrs. Reans will coincide with her husband Vernon O. Reans and will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, MS. Interment will follow at Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw, MS. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening the 22nd at Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Jim Nunnalee and Reverend Chad Phelan will officiate the service. Ruth was born January 12, 1923 to the late John Will Bailey and Lula Agnes Heflin Bailey in Drew, MS. She attended school in Lambert MS, where she played defense for the ladies basketball team in the late 30's. She went on to marry Vernon O. Reans in 1943. Shortly after their marriage Vernon was called to serve his county over seas. Ruth, who was know to have a beautiful voice, recorded a record for him to take with him to war. Vernon kept the record of her sweet voice and brought it safely back from the war. The couple lived in California for 2 years after the War before moving back to Sledge, MS were they resided from 1951 to 2009. Ruth worked for Garan Manufacturing for some time before coming home to take care of her family. She was the true definition of a "Lady". She took great pride in keeping her home and landscaping in her yard in immaculate condition. She knew and taught etiquette and made sure the member of her family always practiced the tradition. She was an active member of Sledge First Baptist Church, singing in the Choir and playing piano. She served on as many committees as possible and especially enjoyed helping with social events and mission work. Later on in life she was the caregiver for several of her siblings in their time of need, as she was always thinking of others before herself. Her loving memory will be greatly missed by her 2 daughters; Marilyn Reans Pang(Ed) of Senatobia, MS, and Martha Reans O'Neal (Jimmy) of Jayess, MS; 1 son, Henry Michael Reans (Beverly) of Grenada, MS; 4 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Myrtis Bailey Womble and Myrle Bailey Barrows; and 5 brothers, Alton, Fred, Victor, Malcolm, and Eugene Bailey.
