Video Memorial TributeCecil O. Sharp, age 85, passed away Friday evening, January 16, 2015, at his home in Batesville, Mississippi. Mr. Sharp is the husband of the late Bonnie Sharp and father of Kevin Sharp of Batesville, Mississippi. Funeral services for Mr. Sharp will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Batesville, MS. Interment will follow at Forrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday evening January 19th from 5:00 to 8:00 at Wells Funeral Home. Dr. Tommy Snyder and Mr. Jud Allen will officiate the service. Mr. Sharp was an active member of First Baptist Church of Batesville. He served as the Chairman of Deacons for First Baptist Church in Marks. He also served as a Deacon for Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale as well as First Baptist in Batesville. Mr. Sharp was born October 18, 1929 at Itta Bena, MS to the late Oliver G. and Dorothy D. Locke Sharp. Upon completion of Crowder High School, Cecil went on to attend Delta State Teachers College and earned a Bachelors of Science in Biology. He also received a degree from the University of Mississippi. He served his country in the Korean was as a member of the U.S. Air Force. After his service in the military, he went on to work as a salesman with Delta Uniform Co. in Marks MS and was the Personnel Director with the Northern District of the Mississippi Highway Department. Many will remember Mr. Sharp for his impact he made in the field of education. He taught science at Lambert, Sledge and Marks Schools and went on to be the Superintendent of Education for Quitman County Schools. Once he retired from his career in education, he was the owner-operator of Sunflower Food Store in Marks, MS and along with his wife, Bonnie, was the owner of the Pacesetter Shops in Marks and Batesville, MS. Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by his parents, son, Marty Sharp, sister Lillian M. Sharp Hinton and his wife of 68 years, Bonnie Sharp. Survivors include his son Kevin V. Sharp of Batesville, MS, three grandchildren; Tyler (Elisa) Sharp of Batesville MS, Blake Sharp of Batesville MS, and Jordan Sharp of Dundee MS, one sister; Inez McCullar of Courtland, MS and two nephews; Billy McCullar of Natchez and Ronnie Hinton.
