John R. Simmons

John R. Simmons, Sr., age 79, passed away Thursday evening, November 27, 2014, at North Delta Hospice House in Southaven, Mississippi. The funeral services for Mr. Simmons will be at3:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville, MS with interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. prior to service. John was born March 25, 1935 to the late George M. and Johnnie Morman Simmons in Charleston, Mississippi. During his life Mr. Simmons was a heavy equipment operator and enjoyed fishing and gardening in his spare time. He was a Baptist by faith. His loving memory will be cherished by his four daughters, Cathy S. Thompson of Batesville, MS. Donna S. Allen of Coldwater, MS, Debbie S. Pannell of Franklin, TN, and Peggy S. Snider of Batesville, MS; two sons, John R. Simmons, Jr. of Tunica, MS, James W. Simmons of Coldwater, MS; one sister, Bessie Spencer of Batesville, MS; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. In lieu of flowers the Simmons family request that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
