Maude Frances Sanders Short, age 89, passed away Monday morning, October 13, 2014 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford, MS. The funeral services for Mrs. Short will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Sardis First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis, MS. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 at the church. Frances was born April 30, 1925 to the late Jackson "Jack" Sanders and Mattie Ross Sanders in DeKalb, Mississippi. Frances served as the Chancery Clerk for Tallahatchie County from February 1959 to January 1964. She will be greatly missed by 2 daughters; Amy E. Short Portera (Greg) of Memphis, TN, Connie C. Rice Bohlke of Sardis, MS, 2 sons; Benjamin B. "Bill" Rice, Jr. (Debbie) of Pearl, MS, and Joel J. Rice (Lynn) of Batesville, MS, two sisters; Mildred Cook of Atlanta, GA, and Patsy Key (Dewitt) of DeKalb, MS, 3 brothers; Lewis Sanders (Jean) of Meridian, MS, Jimmy Sanders (Mary) of Meridian MS, and Charles Glynn "Mickey" Sanders of DeKalb, MS. She was blessed to have 7 Grandchildren; Betsey Rice Flowers (Luke), Lindsey Rice Petit (Brandon), Sanders Bohlke (Elizabeth), Mary Bohlke Dickerson (Bob), Alex Rice Hallmark (Cody), Mary Virginia Portera and Will Portera; 4 Great-Granchildren Dane Flowers, Sam Dickerson, Georgia Petit, and Jack Bohlke. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by one sister, Etta Lee Henderson, 3 brothers; Jack Sanders Jr., Robert Curtis Sanders, Walter Earl Sanders; and her 3 husbands; Oscar Bryan Jr., Benjamin B. "Billy" Rice and Robert Monroe Short. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorials in Frances' honor by made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38015 or to Gideon International for Memorial Bibles or to the memorial of your choice. .
