Billie C. Garner

Billie C. Garner died peacefully at the age of 85 in her home in the early morning hours of October 1, 2014. Mrs. Garner was the widow of BH Garner who passed away in 2002. She was born Billie Mai Commer in Courtland, Mississippi on August 12, 1929, to Marietta Mcneely and Kendrick Alton Commer. She had one sister, Mary Pearl, who died in her youth. Mrs. Garner grew up in Courtland, graduated from Batesville High School and attended Belhaven College before marrying BH Garner in 1953 and moving to Memphis, Tennessee. She and Mr. Garner returned to Batesville in 1973 and have lived in the area ever since. Mrs. Garner retired from the Panola County School District where she worked as the bookkeeper and office manager for the cafeteria and food services department. Mrs. Garner is survived by her three sons, William Frank Garner of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Paul Martin Garner of The Woodlands, Texas, and Andrew Kendrick Garner of Batesville, Mississippi; five grandchildren, Paul Martin Garner II, Andrew Kendrick Garner Jr., Jonathan Wayne Garner, Ashely Lane Garner, and William Paul Garner. She also has 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 6, 2014, at Batesville Presbyterian Church where she was a longtime member and active in numerous areas of the life of that Church. Visitation will be Sunday October 5, 2014, from 5:00-8:00 at Wells Funeral Home, as well as Monday morning, October 6, 2014, beginning at 10:00 AM at Batesville Presbyterian Church.
