Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Clarksdale, Ms.                                                          Mr. Murphree was born September 26, 1933 in Walnut, Ms. to the late Byron Morgan and Lucille Taylor Murphree.   Gene was a retired manager for Bell South and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved hunting and fishing and was also a member of Walnut Baptist Church in Walnut, Ms. Mr. Murphree is survived by his loving wife, Billie Jane Murphree of Batesville, Ms.; a daughter, Lynda Gail Hester and husband Mike of Tupelo, Ms.; two sons, Tom Murphree and wife, Debbie of Alabaster, Al., Mark Murphree and wife Teresa of Saltillo, Ms.;  brother, Glenn T. Murphree and wife Pat of Pontotoc, Ms. ; one grandson, Nathan Murphree Hester, 2 Step-Grandsons, 1 Step-Granddaughter, 5 Step-Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2008 from Noon until Service time at Wells Funeral Home.
