Ray Elisha Slaughter, Jr. age 67, husband of Linda Slaughter of Batesville, MS, passed away Tuesday morning July 22, 2014, at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley, Mississippi. Full Military honor funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014, in Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Roger Richards presiding. Burial will follow in the Veteran's Section of Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. The Slaughter family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home. Ray was born on November 22, 1946, to tbe late Irene Dees & Ray E. Slaughter, Sr., in Charleston, MS. Ray was a 100% Disabled American Veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era, as a Marine. His accomidations include: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Combat Medal, Combat Action Ribbon. Mr. Slaughter was a member of the Pope Baptist Church. Ray retired after 25 years of production work for Instituform Technologies out of Batesville, MS. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ray was an extreme Elvis Presley fan, who was a known collector of Elvis memorabilia. Those whom will continue on his loving legacy include his wife, Linda Cook Slaughter of Batesville; one daughter, Joy Slaughter of Baton Rouge, LA; 2 sons, Andy Ray Slaughter of Cordova, TN and Jerry Slaughter of Batesville; one step-daughter, Christy Goodwin Hudson of Batesville, MS; 2 step-sons, Ronnie Goodwin of Batesville and Kevin Goodwin of Senatobia, MS; 2 sisters, Donna Walls of Batesville and Gail Weeks of Courtland, MS; one brother, Mike Slaughter of Oxford, MS; and 10 grandchildren, Caroline Slaughter, Ashley Goodwin, Nick Hudson, Dalton Hudson, Austin Goodwin, Ashton Goodwin, Lexi Lantrip, Grace Goodwin, Caleb Goodwin and Noah Goodwin. Ray was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Ann Slaughter. The family requests memorial donations be sent to the Vietnam Agent Orange Relief & Responsibility Campaign, P.O.Box 303 - Prince Station, New York, NY 10012-0006.
