James Marshall Johnson, Jr.

August 10, 1957 — February 17, 2014

James M. Johnson, Jr., age 56, husband of Daile Johnson, died on Monday morning, 2/17/14, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center, Batesville, MS.The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, 2/20/14, at First Baptist Church, 104 Panola Ave., Batesville, MS. Dr. Tommy Snyder will officate the home going service and interment will follow in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. The Johnson family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.James was born to Emma Jean Wise & James M. Johnson, Sr., on August 10, 1957, in Batesville, MS. During his lifetime, James worked as a farmer & cattleman with J.H. Vaughan & Sons. Presently, he was the manager for Dixie Gin Company in Batesville. His hard work and dedication was an inspiration to friends and family throughout the community.Mr. James loved the Lord and was an active member of the First Baptist Church. During his membership, he served in multiple capacities; including, Sunday School teacher, Deacon and former Chairman of the Deacons, as well as serving on numerous committees, church wide. James was quick to volunteer wherever he was needed. He spear-headed the establishment of The Samaritan's Benevolence Fund, a fund specifically designed for First Baptist members who are in financial need. James was an avid outdoorsman who spent many hours hunting, fishing and mechanicing with his grandchildren. When one of the grandchildren wanted to start any type of project, James was with them, throughout each step, teaching them what he could, and learning from them, too. Little did he know, he was growing and nurturing lasting relationships along the way; which each of the children will forever cherish. Our loss is heavens gain.To continue his legacy, he leaves his loving & devoted wife of 39 years, Daile Tiner Johnson of Courtland, MS; 2 daughters, Jessica Renae Johnson Camp and Jamie Marie Johnson, both of Courtland; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Johnson Thetford of Batesville and Dorothy Jean Rikard of Bartlett, TN; one brother, Robert E. Johnson of Senatobia, MS; and his pride and joy, 8 grandchildren: Joseph (Jo Jo), Daniel, Timmy, Jonathan, Chelsea, Nicholas, Shawn and Paton; and one great grandchild, Carmen-Marie.James was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glen Morgan Johnson and son, James M. Johnson, III. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to, First Baptist Church, Samaritan's Benevolence Fund, 104 Panola Ave., Batesville, MS 38606.
