Irene Shields Taylor

Irene Shields Taylor, age 89, passed away Thursday evening ,February 13, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Batesville, Mississippi. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, 2/16/14 in Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Hal Johnson presiding.  Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sardis, MS.  The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, 2/15/14 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.  Those honored to serve as pallbearers are:  Brad Taylor, Larry Taylor, Don Putman, Nick Smith, Willie Smith, Scott Taylor, Eric Harrell and Mike Pritchard. Mrs. Taylor was born in Craighead County, Arkansas on May 26, 1924 to Ernest & Gertrude Bridwell Shields.  She worked at Panola Mills in Batesville for many years until they closed. Then, she went on to work in the 6/55 Truck Stop, as a waitress.  Irene was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Curtis, MS. Those family members she leaves behind to cherish her memory, include a daughter, Annie Ruth Putman of Sardis, MS; 3 sons, Gordon Thetford of Batesville, MS, Ricky Taylor and Eddie Taylor both of Sardis, MS; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Taylor; 2 sons, Willard Taylor and Danny Thetford.
