Ernest "Ernie" Goodwin

Mr. Ernest "Ernie" Goodwin, age 68, passed away Wednesday Evening at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, Mississippi. The funeral for Mr. Goodwin will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim McMillin officiating;  burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday evening, 2/14/14, at Wells Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 p.m.Ernie was born in Panola County, MS to Ernest B. & Ida Lee Epps Goodwin on August 27, 1942.  He was a farmer and a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Army.  Among his medals, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Commendation Medal.  Ernie was a Rifle Sharpshooter.  Mr. Goodwin was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church.  His survivors include sisters:  Ruby Goodwin Lawrence, Fay Goodwin Putman of Oxford, Peggy Goodwin Turnage of Oxford, Patsy Goodwin Oliphant of Oxford, Linda Goodwin Holley of Batesville and Martha Goodwin Denley of Courtland; 2 brothers, James "Buddy" Goodwin of Oxford and Richard Goodwin of Batesville, MS and a special friend, Bobby Jean Phillips of Marks, MS
