Jerry L. Darby

Jerry L. Darby, age 75, husband of Margaret Darby, died Wednesday, 2/5/14, at Baptist Memorial Hosptial, Memphis, TN. A memorial service for Mr. Darby will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, 2/7/14 in Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clay Baker officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Friday morning. On August 7, 1938, Jerry was born to George Washington & Lillie Mae Tomlin Darby in Courtland, Mississippi. After high school, Mr. Darby began working for Dunlap & Kyle Company and continued to enjoy his sales job for 39 years. Jerry retired when he was 58 years old from his first and only job from what is now known as Gateway Tire and Service Center, Batesville, MS. To cherish his memory and continue his legacy, Jerry leaves his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Margaret Darby; their daughter, Dr. Meloney Darby Whitfield and husband Lewis of Tupelo, MS; one son, Allen Lyn Darby and wife Myra Stewart of Batesville, MS; sister, Sally Jo Blair also of Batesville and a brother, Neil Darby of Columbia, MS. Besides Jerry's parents, he was prececed in death by one sister, Jenny Kay Carrol and his uncle, Jack Darby, who was like his second father. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to Panola County Cancer Relief Organization, 273 Pollard Street, Batesville, Mississippi, 38606.
