Video Memorial TributeLou Shurden Savage, age 68, passed away Friday morning, January 3, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North MS in Oxford, MS.
The family will be celebrating Lou's life with a service beginning at 3:30 P.M. Sunday afternoon, January 5, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Batesville, MS with a committal service to follow in Magnolia Cemetery also in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends two and a half hours prior to the celebration service in the church sanctuary at 1:00 P.M. Mr. John Howell, Jr. will be officiating the service. Those honored and privileged to serve as pallbearers will be David Hardy, Dale Hill, Clint Fisher, Andy Shurden, Chris Shurden, Will Smith, Stephen Sullivan, and Chris Wells.
Lou was born December 26, 1945, one of eight children, in Starkville, MS to the late Emory Otha and Homa Lee Phillips Shurden. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batesville, MS. Lou grew up in West Point, MS and graduated from West Point High School in 1964. She worked for Job Corps in Batesville, MS for many years and eventually retired this year from Northwest Mississippi Community College as the Administrative Assistant to Dr. Jack Butts. Lou was a proud mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren, and she was a special friend to many. She loved and adored everyone around her, and always spoke a kind word.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her two sons, Paul Clinton Savage, Jr. (Donna) of Batesville, MS, Michael Shurden Savage (Dr. Cynthia) of Batesville, MS; four sisters, Sandra Shurden Savage of Southaven, MS, Linda Shurden Hammond (Dr. Abner) of Baton Rouge, LA, Vicki Shurden Hill (Roger) of Columbus, MS, Lisa Shurden of Germantown, TN; brother, Otha Lee Shurden of Eupora, MS. Lou's memory will also live on through her five grandchildren, Tripp and Savannah Savage, Baylor Savage, Eli and Ford Wilson. She is also survived by a longtime loving companion, Jamie Howell of Pope, MS. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Kelly Shurden and Michael Feddy Shurden.
