Jerry L. Denman, age 81, passed away Sunday, 12/22/2013, at his home in Sardis, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014, in Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Sardis, MS. The Denman family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Wells Funeral Home. Jerry was born to Kenneth Arlington & Evelyn Terrell Denman on November 28, 1932, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was an active church member and served as an elder for churches of Christ in Virginia, Tennessee and Texas. He and his wife, Anita, lived in Sardis, Mississippi and worshiped with the Como church of Christ. Mr. Denman was Commissioned in June 1955 after graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY. After serving the United States Army for 28 years, he retired as a Colonel in 1983. Military Awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star for Valor, Air Medal for Valor, Combat Infantry Badge and Master Parachutist Badge. Mr. Denman began is second career in 1984 as Director of Gift Planning for World Christian Broadcasting Corporation, a Christian international radio ministry with offices in Franklin, TN and stations in Alaska and Madagascar. After leaving the Staff in 1996, he served on the board of directors until his death. Those whom he leaves behind to cherish his memory include, his wife of 58 years, Anita Haney Denman of Sardis, MS; three daughters, Dianne Reed and Son-in-Law, Owen Reed, of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Andra Denman of Jacksonville, FL and Lou Ann Denman of Memphis, TN; and two grandchildren, Erin Walsh Chambers (husband, Josh) and Ryan Walsh of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Patricia Denman Wiley and Brother-in-Law, Dr. William A. Wiley, Jr., of Johnson City, TN. Along with his parents, Jerry was preceded by a brother, Kenneth Arlington Denman, Jr. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to World Christian Broadcasting, 605 Bradley Court, Franklin, TN 37067-8200.
