Video Memorial TributeTravis Mathews, age 80, passed away early Sunday morning, November 24, 2013 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville, MS after battling pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Enid, MS.  Reverend Martin Case & Reverend John Case will officiate the service. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Travis was born in Sardis to M.C. and Annie Ray Mathews.  He worked as a farm equipment salesman for over 36 years.  He was an active member of Pine Hill Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon.After his retirement, he enjoyed maintaining his extensive lawn and a huge garden, which grew larger each year.  He also was an active member of the coffee shop group where he gathered with old friends.  Wood working was a hobby he excelled in, making birdhouses and constructing other projects.Travis is survived by his wife of 46 1/2 years, Betty Jane Toole Mathews, his daughter, Meg Mathews Woods, and son-in-law, Rusty of Batesville, grandchildren Carlee, Sulli, and Mathew Woods of Batesville.  He leaves brothers Horace Mathews (Geraldine) of Como, Danny Mathews (Becky) of Hernando, sisters, Christine Booker of Hernando, Elsie M. Lashlee of Southaven, and Ann M. Power of Hernando, plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Serving as pallbearers are his nephews:  Eric Mathews, Donald Mathews, Michael Mathews, Mark Toole, Charles Toole, Blake Toole, Raymond Toole and Richard Sosebee.Honorary pallbearers are Jack Ray, Larry Long, William Earl Douglas, Don Allison, Ike Sayle, Charlie Rodgers, William Rodgers, Banks Brasell, Donald Davis, Robert McMillian, and Jimmy Smith.Memorials may be made to Enid Oak-Hill Cemetery at 92 Teasdale Rd., Enid, MS  38927, or to Johns Hopkins, Attn: Gift Processing Supervisor, 3400 N. Charles Street, San Martin Center, Baltimore, MD 21218.
