Hugh A. Rhodes, age 61, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 23, 2013 at Anderson Regional Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation for Hugh begins at 12:00 noon and will continue until service time on Saturday.
Hugh was born to Allen Lavon "Jack" & Ruby Reese Rhodes on March 17, 1952 in Calhoun City, MS. Mr. Rhodes was a member of First Baptist Church, Batesville, MS and graduate of South Panola High School's Class of 1970. Hugh continued his education at Mississippi State University where he studied Architecture. While at MSU, he became an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Throughout his life, Hugh was an extremely creative individual; whether it be working with flowers, furniture or building structures, he had an eye for design. His creativity enabled him to open a Wholesale Showroom in Atlanta, GA, named, "The Mississippi Pavilion". As an Interior and Structural Designer, Mr. Rhodes helped many people achieve their dreams through his visions, which he made come to life.
Since Hugh was a heart transplant patient himself, he wanted others to be as fortunate. Hugh was able to be a cornea donor to fulfill his wish for others to have a better quality of life.
Those family members he leaves behind include: his sister, Janet Rhodes Heggie (Wallace) of Meridian, MS; niece, Jennifer Heggie of Brandon, MS; nephew, Wade Heggie (Erica) of Meridan; great niece, Megan Heggie & great nephew, Matthew Heggie both of Meridian, MS.
Memorials may be made to Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, Jackson, MS or Sigma Chi Fraternity at Mississippi State University.
Special thanks to Doctors Dale Touchstone, Jim Cady, Tim Ivey and Kary Whitehead in Meridian; Dr. David Ball, Batesville; Dr. Frank McGrew, Memphis and the transplant team at Baptist East, Memphis.
