James R. Jernigan

Mr. James R. "Jerry" Jernigan, age 95, passed away Sunday evening, October 13, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Oxford. Funeral services for Mr. Jernigan will be 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 10/16/13, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Tribble presiding. Burial will follow in Hebron Cemetery, Sardis, MS. Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at Wells Chapel. Jerry was born to Silas & Addie Enfinger Jernigan on November 17, 1917 in Milton, Florida. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Jernigan was a Licensed Insurance Agent, having written policies for Liberty National Insurance Company for 25 years. Jerry was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. He enjoyed the thrill of racing, whether it was a boat, truck or other vehicle, it didn't even need to have a motor for him to enjoy making it run fast. He would even race matchbox cars. Jerry is survived by his loving wife: Ruth Neely Jernigan of Sardis, MS. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Pallbearers serving Mr. Jernigan will be James Wells, Johnny Fewell, Hugh Foster and Steven Gray.
