Video Memorial TributeLucile Thomas Goree Monk, age 89, joined the Lord on July 23, 2013 at her home in Batesville, MS.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Batesville Presbyterian Church, 121 Eureka Street, with Rev. Ann Kelly, Associate Pastor of Oxford First Presbyterian Church, presiding. Mrs. Monk's family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church.She was born to L.E. & Gladys Thomas on December 4, 1923 in Charleston, MS. Lucile was married to Paul E. Goree in 1939. After his death, she married the Rev. Samuel S. Monk. On and off, through the years, she worked in retail sales and could "sell ice cubes to eskimos". She ended her working career at age 77 after serving several years as a sorority house mother for the Alpha Gama Deltas at Mississippi State University and then for the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority  at the University of Mississippi. During her career Mrs. Lucile was also a secretary and bookkeeper for the family business. She was a member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church. Of the hobbies she enjoyed, playing bridge, gardening, painting & shopping for antiques were among her favorites. Those who will cherish her memory and continue on the family legacy include her daughter, Paulette Norman of Batesville, MS, and two step-daughters, Virginia Ann Hamilton of Germantown, TN and Ruth Ellen Monk of Houston, TX; one son, Mike Goree (Johanna) of Starkville, MS; one brother, Lent E. Thomas, Jr. (Linda) of Batesville; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.Those who preceded her in death include her parents;  husbands, Paul E. Goree, and Samuel S. Monk; one son, Paul E. "Eddie" Goree, Jr.; and a sister, Inez Warren.
