Melvin Wayne Ferrell, age 84, died at his home in Batesville on Tuesday morning, March 19, 2013.
The funeral service for Mr. Ferrell will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, March 21, 2013 in Wells Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tim Morgan and Rev. Dave Tribble officiating. Burial to follow in Good Hope Cemetery, Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at Wells Funeral Home.
Mr. Ferrell was born on May 1, 1928 to Jerry Lee & Mary Elizabeth Woodruff Ferrell in Batesville, MS. After gradustion from Courtland High School, he served with the United States Army for 2 years. Melvin was a retired farmer, cattleman and carpenter. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church where he and served as a deacon and Sunday School Treasurer. Mr. Ferrell also served his community on the Board of Directors for the Eureka Water Association.
His survivors include his wife, Tommye Woodruff Walker of Batesville, 2 daughters, Lisa Ferrell Perry of Batesville and Susan Ferrell Evans (Phil) of Olive Branch, MS, one son, Robert Lee Ferrell of Batesville, a step-daughter, Janet W. Johnston of Batesville, sister, Jerelene Armstrong of Batesville and 2 grandchildren, Cliff Evans & Meredith Evans.
Mr. Ferrell was preceded in death by one son, Melvin Wayne Ferrell, Jr., and one brother Charles Warren Ferrell.
