Funeral Services for Mr. Nix will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, 5/24/12, at the Batesville Presbyterian Church, 121 Eureka St., Batesville, MS with Reverend Melodie Jones Pointon officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery with Drew Abbey, Mark Larson, Evan Leak, Clint Powers, Chad Smith and Will Smith serving as pallbearers.
He was born to Robert Lee & Alice Clenney Nix in Blakely, GA on November 8, 1944. He grew up in Jacksonville, FL and graduated from Paxon Senior High School there in 1962. Robert was a musician, vocalist and producer in the music industry. He was also a member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church. Robert was an orginal member of the Atlanta Rhythm Section and former member of The Candymen. He has toured and played the drums with some of the most famous musical artist, including Roy Orbison and Lynyrd Skynyrd just to name a few. Robert is in the Georgia and Florida Music Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his Wife: Alison Heafner Nix- Batesville, MS; 2 Daughters: Scarlett Nix Phillips of Palatka, FL and Wendi Nix Garecki of Indianapolis, IN; Son: Chad Heafner of Batesville, MS; Sister: Faye Nix Duncan of Jacksonville, FL; 2 Brothers: Robin Greg "Pee Wee" Nix of Jacksonville, FL and Neely Michael "Runt" Nix of Jacksonville, FL; 2 Grandchildren: Hailey Joy Heafner & Jack Henry Heafner and his Mother-In-Law: Joy Wallace Robison of Batesville, MS.
