Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Shady Grove Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family of Major Otts will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening December 7, 2011 at Wells Funeral Home.
Major Otts was born March 2, 1932 in Beaverton, AL to the late Fred and Rena Holliday Otts. Major Otts was member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. On October 8, 1948, Major Otts enlisted in the U.S. Army in Grenada, MS and upon retirement on November 1, 1979 had obtained the rank of Major. Major Otts served in the Vietman War and the Korean Conflict where he received the Bronze Star. After retirement Major Otts taught R.O.T.C. in Memphis, TN for 21 years at Southside High School. Major Otts was one of the original Green Beret's under President John F. Kennedy.
Major Otts is survived by his wife of 60 years, Christine Avis Otts of Batesville, MS; daughter, Catherine Otts Carithers of Horn Lake, MS; son, Alan Dale Otts of Covington, TN; sister, Carolyn Otts Crandall of Florence, AL; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
