Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Pat Ludlam officiating. Interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Wells Funeral Home.
Mr. Marquis was born June 21, 1925 in Pittsboro, MS, Calhoun County to the late Walter Hulon and Maggie Leonard Marquis. Resided in Quitman County, MS until relocating to Joliet, IL in 1955. Employed by General Motors, Fisher Body Division, Willow Springs, IL. Mr. Marquis was the president of U.A.W. Local 558 serving for a number of years. Returned to Mississippi after retiring making his home in Batesville. He was a member of Batesville First United Methodist Church, Lions Club, Masons, Sons of the Confederacy, V.F.W., Shriners, and the Batesville Police and Citizens Triad. He served his country as a Marine in World War II & Korean War.
Mr. Marquis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mavis Rodgers Marquis of Batesville, MS; dauhters, Connie Marquis Fonseca (late Rudy Fonseca) of Walls, MS; Jeanie Marquis Hughes of Hanover, IN; Anita Marquis of Batesville, MS; son, Homer Lee Marquis, Jr. (Janet Sommers) of Shreveport, LA; sister, Lartee Marquis White (late Elbert White) of Kalamazoo, MI; brother, Glispie Marquis (Rena Corley) of Brekenridge, TX; 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews.
Preceded in death by: Father & Mother, Walter Hulon Marquis, Crowder, MS, & Maggie Leonard Marquis, Mark, MS; Sister Eloise Marquis (Early White) Richton, MS.
Pallbearers will be his grandson; Paul Peterson, Mike Hall, Russell Cave, Aaron Marquis, Richard Marquis, Jeff Moody & Brian Cave.
