Woodard, 82, widower of the late Mary Jewell Woodard, passed away Wednesday evening, June 1, 2011 at the MS State Veterans Affairs Home in Oxford, MS. Memorial services will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with visitation begining two hours prior at 1:00 P.M. R. C. Woodard was the son of the late William Joseph Woodard and Alchie O’Dell Dees Woodard. He was born in Hughes, AR on April 16, 1929. Mr. Woodard leaves four daughters, Linda Woodard Sprouse, Patsy Woodard Dulin, Donna Woodard Tidwell, and Carolyn Woodard Shepard. He also leaves eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Woodard is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jewell Fryer Bouchillon Woodard (May 1, 1930 –February 25, 2006), an infant son, and eleven brothers and sisters: Henry (Boots) Woodard, William Woodard, Addie Woodard Smart, Oliver Woodard, Katie Woodard Craft, James Woodard, Johnny Woodard, Dorothy Woodard Perry, Edward Woodard, Joseph (H) Woodard, and William (W.C.)Woodard. Mr. Woodard was a retired sheet metal worker and was a member of the Sheet Metal Worker’s Union No. 4 in Memphis, Tennessee. He served in The United States Marine Corpes and was stationed in China and Korea. Mr. Woodard was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, Batesville, MS where he was an active member. He will be best remembered as an avid fisherman and a regular at Sardis Lake until the last few years. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Panola County Humaine Society.
