Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Clay Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Eureka Private Cemetery, Courtland, MS. Preston was born on March 13, 1950 in Sardis, MS to Buell Clayton and Virginia Mothershed Gaines. He was a farmer and cattleman. He was also worked for McBride Engineering as a surveyor. Mr. Gaines was a member of Eureka United Methodist Church in Courtland, MS. Survivors include: wife, Bennie Baker Gaines of Courtland, MS; 2 sons, Ben Gaines & Preston Gaines both of Courtland, MS; brother, Ron Helms of Courtland, MS; step sister, Janice Wardlaw of Madison, MS; 2 step brothers, Falcom Helms of Batesville, MS and Earl Helms of Georgia. Visitation will be held from Noon until service time on Tuesday, 5/24/11 at Wells Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Eureka Private Cemetery, C/O Charlie Baker, 3129A Bell Rd, Courtland, MS 38620. Pallbearers will be: Keith Mothershead, Ken Mothershead, Gaines Baker, James Baker, Ronnie Helms, Jr., Daniel Gaines, Michael Gaines, Brennan Baker. The following will serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Tim Henson, Perry Massey, Lamar Johnson and John David Johnson.
