Click Here To View Video Memorial TributeOpal Thompson Martindale age 95, widow of Howard Ralph Martindale, died Friday 3/4/11 at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North Mississippi in Oxford, MS.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, 3/7/11 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Gary Berry officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 until service time on Monday. Interment will follow in Forrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Martindale was born October 19, 1915 in Calhoun County, Mississippi to Luther and Mattie Bruner Thompson. She was a 1934 graduate of Water Valley High School. In 1937 she married Howard Martindale of Pope and they were married for 52 years before his death in 1989.
Opal was an active member of the Pope Baptist Church, serving as church treasurer from 1960 to 1989. She was a charter member of the Pope Woman's Club and charter member of the South Panola Community Hospital Auxiliary. She worked as an assistant postal clerk for 18 years at the Pope Post Office. She also enjoyed being a part of several bridge clubs and was a founding member of the Pope Bridge Club.
Mrs. Martindale is survived by her two daughters, Janet Martindale Taylor and husband, Ralph, of Clinton, MS and Karen Martindale Lewis and husband, Ken, of Pope, MS. She is also survived by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Katrina Taylor Pace and husband, Chris, with children Rachael, Katie and Natalie of Clinton; Kennon Slade Lewis and wife, Amy, with children Sam and Julia of Oxford; Brandon Martindale Lewis and wife, Tracey, of Baltimore, Maryland and Ashley Lewis Drumheller and husband, David, with children Trey and Carter, of Batesville.
In addition to her husband she was preceded by one sister, Ethel Thompson Worsham, and two brothers, Albert and Wesley Thompson.
